Ready, Steady…Paint!!

Ready, steady…paint! The next chapter of our extraordinary ‘Last Chance to Paint’ adventure has begun. Our amazing Innova Art ‘Person of the Forest’ project in Borneo is designed to engage you, your family, class and the 200 schools who have signed up with the Penan people and the orangutans of Borneo. We will be ‘LIVE’ from Borneo from September 6th to give your start of term a creative boost and environmental link. Please spread the word to all the teachers and families your know.

Musician Martha-Lilly Dyer, explorer Robin Hanbury-Tenison OBE, FRGS and I (artist John Dyer) head to London on the 4th September to catch a flight on the 5th to the world heritage site of Mulu on the island of Borneo in Malaysia.

We will be visiting the village of Batu Bungan to meet the Penan tribe, who used to be nomadic until 98% of the forest was felled, and to paint with the Penan children. We will also be exploring the rainforest and talking about deforestation and palm oil.

Please get your children and family to send in questions for us to answer or to research for you. This is YOUR adventure and by interacting with us your children can connect to the Penan people, orangutans and the rainforest.

On the 10th September, Robin will fly back to London and On the 11th September Martha-Lilly and I will be flying to the far south of Borneo to paint with the Orangutan Foundation, which will be amazing. We will be with the orangutans until we fly back to London on September the 18th. During this part of the adventure we will be relying on satellite communications only, so if we ‘go dark’ don’t panic as we will get everything out to you as and when possible and we plan to be ‘LIVE’ every day if it all works. Fingers crossed!

AND most importantly we want to urge you all to get your children painting, drawing, collaging and creating their own piece of art based on our projects and to submit it to our WorldGallery.online as the reflective space created whilst making a piece of art is the moment children will bond to the subject, learn, care and then tread gently on planet earth as they grow. If you would like your children’s art to be eligible for an award please submit their art inspired our first chapter Procreate ‘Spirit of the Rainforest’ and this chapter ‘Person of the Forest’ by 22nd November 2019.

Please can you all also complete our quick survey on this link: https://www.lastchancetopaint.com/survey/

Thank you all for your support and we will see you in Borneo very soon!

John.

P.S. A big thank you to Innova Art for proudly sponsoring ‘Person of the Forest’ and for making all this possible. Innova Art makes wonderful papers that I use for all my art posters and vintage style prints.

I also want to thank Steppes Travel for their amazing support and for the title of this blog! Thank you Clare 🙂
